Every comparison on Tone & Depth follows the same rules, so you can judge it. If an article breaks one of them, tell us.
1. Where each number comes from
In order of priority: the manufacturer’s current specification page and manual; the store page we link to; then owner reports. When the manufacturer’s own pages disagree (for example on water resistance or the coils included in a region), the article shows both figures and names the pages, instead of picking one.
2. Prices
A price is always shown with the store and the date it was checked: “$6,999 at High Plains Prospectors, checked October 8, 2026”. We never show “was / now” comparisons or “save X%” figures, because a store’s “regular price” is not evidence of what a product was ever sold for. Prices move: if the date is old, check the store.
3. What owners report
We read forums and video channels and cite what owners say, with a link. A recurring problem or advantage has to appear in at least two independent sources before it goes into an article. We label it as an owner report, not as our finding.
4. What we have not done
We do not own or field-test these detectors. Nothing here is a lab result or a personal test, and we avoid wording that suggests it. Depth figures are the manufacturer’s claims, not measurements.
5. Affiliate links and rankings
Some links are affiliate links to High Plains Prospectors. They do not change the order of a table or a recommendation. When a model is not sold by our partner, we say so and link to the manufacturer. See the disclosure.
6. Updates and corrections
Each article shows its last update. Substantive corrections are noted in the article. To report an error, use the contact page.
