On Garrett’s pages the Axiom Lite is a streamlined package that “shares the platform” with the Axiom: one 11″ x 7″ mono coil, a carry case and a wall charger, with no headphones and no 13″ double-D coil, and because Garrett’s own Axiom manual says Iron Check “only works with DD searchcoils”, the Lite as sold has no Iron Check until you add a DD coil. The price gap is $900 on the listings we read ($2,299.99 against $3,199.99), but Garrett’s own pages show two different prices for the Lite on the same day. We found no list of electronic differences between the two, and no owner comparison of them. We have not tested either; this guide uses Garrett’s pages and manual, dated store prices, and what owners wrote about the Axiom.
Side by side
Specifications are from Garrett’s pages for the Axiom and the Axiom Lite, a Garrett comparison page and the 2022 Axiom manual. Prices checked on 8 October 2026.
| Garrett Axiom (with MS-3 headphones) | Garrett Axiom Lite | |
|---|---|---|
| Coils in the box | 13″ x 11″ DD-FC and 11″ x 7″ mono | 11″ x 7″ mono only |
| Headphones | MS-3 wireless | None listed |
| Iron Check | Works with DD coils, so it works with the DD coil in the box | Garrett’s Lite page says it works “with compatible coils”; the manual says it does not work with mono coils |
| Weight | 1.9 kg (4.2 lb) with the 11″ mono, 2.1 kg (4.7 lb) with the 13″ mono, coil cover included | 1.9 kg (4.2 lb) with the 11″ x 7″ mono and cover |
| Battery | Built-in lithium-ion, up to 16 hours; an AA booster pack adds about 6 hours | About 16 hours; the booster pack is an optional add-on |
| Water resistance | Waterproof coil and stem, rainproof control box (manual) | Garrett’s comparison page lists a waterproof coil and rainproof electronics; its main Lite page gives no rating |
| Warranty | 24 months in the 2022 manual; Garrett’s site now says its detectors carry 3 years | 3 years on Garrett’s comparison page |
| Price | $3,199.99 at Garrett (no commission for us) | $2,299.99 at High Plains Prospectors; Garrett’s Lite page also shows $2,299.99, but its comparison page shows $1,999.99 |
Garrett lists the Axiom’s headphones and a booster pack in the box; the manual’s carton page shows both and says coil types and sizes vary by package. We could not confirm from Garrett’s pages whether the Lite’s electronics are identical: the Lite page says only that it “shares the platform”. If that matters to you, ask Garrett or a dealer in writing.
What changes in practice
One coil against two
The Lite ships with the 11″ x 7″ mono. The full Axiom adds a 13″ x 11″ DD-FC. The manual lists mono and DD coils in 11″ x 7″, 13″ x 11″ and 16″ x 14″ sizes, so a DD coil can be added to a Lite later; Garrett sells them separately.
Iron Check
The manual describes Iron Check as a way to audibly identify iron targets and says it only works with DD coils and will not work with mono coils: pressing the button with a mono coil sounds a warning. It also says Iron Check is conservative, can miss small or weak iron, will typically not identify steel bottle caps as iron, and can be less accurate in highly mineralized ground. With the Lite’s mono coil you would not have it at all until you add a DD coil.
Headphones and charging
The full Axiom lists wireless MS-3 headphones; the Lite lists none, so budget for headphones. The Lite’s package includes a wall charger and adaptors; the full Axiom’s carton page in the manual also shows a booster pack and 12V cables (the cables are marked optional in some kits).
What owners report
We found no owner comparison of the Lite and the full Axiom. What exists is owner comments on the Axiom itself, including on the 11″ x 7″ mono coil that the Lite ships with. In a November 2022 Detector Prospector thread of first impressions:
- A Garrett dealer, who said he had had the Axiom for a short time and was not an expert, found it very light, lighter than the GPX 6000, and stable apart from a passing aircraft. He used only the 11″ mono coil on his first trip, found four nuggets, wanted more sensitivity to small targets (and thought another mode might have helped), and collected a pouch of iron trash because he was not using Iron ID.
- Another member, who lists an Axiom alongside a GPX 6000, found it easy to carry, described the build as nice and the controls as many and adjustable, and said it ran stable. He used mostly the 11″ x 7″ mono, found four small nuggets and one larger one over two days on ground that had been searched before, and found a 0.13 g nugget with the 13″ x 11″ DD. He said hot ground produced noise that the sensitivity control smoothed out, that setup was not as quick as on a Minelab SDC 2300, and that maximum depth and sensitivity were not yet settled on worked ground.
These are first-impression posts from 2022, one from a dealer, about the full Axiom and not the Lite. We do not own either detector and have not field-tested them.
Who each model is not for
- Axiom Lite: not for anyone who wants Iron Check out of the box, because the manual says it does not work with a mono coil, nor anyone who wants headphones or a second coil included.
- Axiom (full package): not for anyone who only needs the one coil and no headphones, and not for anyone who wants to buy through High Plains Prospectors, which does not list the full Axiom.
Where to buy, and how to read the price
The prices above are selling prices on each listing on 8 October 2026. Garrett’s Lite page shows $2,299.99 while its comparison page showed $1,999.99 on the same day; we do not know which is current, so check the price in the cart before ordering. High Plains Prospectors is an affiliate partner: if you buy through the link marked as an affiliate link we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The full Axiom is only linked to Garrett, with no commission. Struck-through list prices are ignored. Stock changes daily.
FAQ
Does the Axiom Lite come with headphones?
Garrett’s Lite page lists a coil, coil cover, soft carry case and wall charger; it does not list headphones.
Is the Axiom Lite waterproof?
Garrett’s comparison page lists a waterproof coil and rainproof electronics and does not claim full submersion. See our guide to waterproof ratings for how this compares with other models.
Can I add a second coil to the Lite?
The manual lists additional mono and DD coils in several sizes for the Axiom. Check Garrett for the coil and price that fits.
Is the Lite less sensitive than the full Axiom?
We found no source that says so, and no owner comparison. Garrett says the Lite shares the platform. Sensitivity also depends on coil, mode and ground.
How does it compare with the GPX 6000 and the Magnetar?
See our three-way gold detector comparison and our guide to VLF and PI.

How we put this comparison together
Specifications come from Garrett’s pages and the 2022 Axiom manual, prices from each listing on the date shown, and owner comments are paraphrased from the cited thread, with its date. We do not own or field-test these detectors. When Garrett’s own pages disagree, we show both. Full method.
